Setting New Year Resolutions or Creating Habits

Did you set any New Year Resolutions? Have you started? Or maybe you already quit? It’s ok, if you did. Read on & find out how I am changing things up a bit!

I realize some started on January 1st and others are starting next week when the kids go back to school. I’m actually doing a little of both! My kids don’t go back to school until tomorrow. Or at least that’s what I’m hoping since they’re still in bed. ;-)

Normally I don’t set resolutions, because I am not very good at sticking to things like that. But this year I decided to do things a little bit differently.

That being said, I am taking it somewhat slow, so that I have a better chance of it becoming a habit. A good habit! I’ve always heard that it takes 21 days of doing something for it to become a habit. I thought that if I started slow instead of diving in, I’d have a better chance of sticking to it.

My main goal it to make some changes to be a better wife and mother. I am hoping that with the things I plan to incorporate, this will happen.

I have already been doing my Bible studies each morning. I am going to try to focus on doing a little more each day and with fewer interruptions from the kids, phone, etc. The Bible study that I use has simple exercises with it to apply to daily life. I am excited to apply more of these to our daily routine.

I would also like to focus on rising earlier each morning. This will be a real challenge for me since I am such a night owl. But I know that if I can get up before everyone else I will get so much more accomplished. My husband has always been a morning person, so I doubt I’ll ever beat him up. He is such a “morning person” that at times it drives me crazy! :-)

I have already started taking better care of myself. On the 1st I made sure that I ate my black-eyed peas. That’s gotta account for something, right?!! ;-) And let’s not forget about the “Apple A Day to keep the doctor away”!! ;-) My youngest has a new love for apples now too and it is probably because he has seen me eating so many over the last few weeks. :-D

But, not just on the 1st. I have been eating better and have been more active. I am going to make sure I get my walking exercise worked into my routine even if it is only a few times a week. Going up & down into the attic is a good workout for sure! Adding a few boxes to that is an even better workout! :-)

With my New Year Resolutions, or the habits that I am creating, I also want to de-clutter and make more contributions to the local shelter. We have so much stuff that we have accumulated over the 2 ½ years since we moved to OKC. I know that we could get by with so much less and give it to someone that could really use it.

So once the kids are back in school I am going to tackle a room at a time. Should I start with their rooms? Playroom? Or maybe the kitchen? My goal is to divide it up over several days so that I am not cleaning and de-cluttering all day, day after day. Again, if I can do this for 21 days, maybe it will become a habit and we will be getting rid of stuff on a regular basis.

I look forward to sharing things with you that you can apply to your daily lives and make things more manageable. I also plan to post my weekly goals and our weekly menu. Maybe this will encourage you too.

As always, I look forward to feedback from you and am open to suggestions.

Have a great day and a very Happy New Year!! And Thank You again for taking the time to stop by & read. I hope that it becomes more & more beneficial to you. :-D

Looks like you are on your way with a good plan for the new year. I have some plans I have started to slowly make some progress on. I am also making changes slowly wanting them to stick. I wish you the best in establishing your new habits it may take a while but it will be worth it.
